Description of Common Ground

Sitting on the steps at a protest rally in 2017, I took a picture of a friend of mine sitting in front of me. I later noticed that on either side of her, on opposite ends of another step, two women sat: at first glance, they were completely different. One was European American and appeared somewhat of a “hipster”, and the other woman was Muslim wearing a traditional hijab. But their similarities far outweighed their differences. They were both wearing purple on their heads and appeared to be absorbed in focusing on the speakers who were advocating for the need to respect our religious differences. I fell in love with those similarities.
