Known as "Queen of the Trumpet," Valaida Snow was a prominent jazz multi-instrumentalist, singer, and bandleader during the 1920s and 1930s. She achieved international fame touring across the United States, Europe, and Asia before her career was disrupted by World War II.
She was arrested in Europe sometime after 1939, and why and where she was held are not clear. After her release she was a shattered women: But she still dug deep into her strength and returned to the stage.
Like many women in jazz, her name has been all but forgotten, but her story is one of resilience and one that should be told.
