The photo this drawing is based on had 20 girls posed on, in, and in front of a large touring car. It depicts a YMCA camp for girls and was taken at Highland Beach, MD, which was one of the first resort towns for African-Americans. The community was founded in 1893 by Charles and Laura Douglass, the son and daughter-in-law of abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
The photograph is part of the collection at the National Museum of American History
