George Floyd

The year 2020 was difficult for people around the world, but the murder of George Floyd in May ignited a national reckoning.

George Perry Floyd Jr., an African American man, was murdered by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, during an arrest that began after a store clerk suspected Floyd had used a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill. Floyd was killed in front of bystanders who pleaded with Chauvin and the other officers to stop. Instead, the officers threatened the crowd while continuing to hold Floyd down until the pressure on his body proved fatal.
