Rag Shopping

This piece, and its companion piece Chiffonier’s Wife, were based on a photograph taken in Newcastle, UK in 1890. I am fascinated by the history, the way the figures in white stand out, and the untold stories of the figures with their backs to the viewer.

What were they doing? What were they looking at? We’ll never know for sure, but it was an interesting time.
