Description of Sitting Out The Dance
In the Spring of 2018 I attended the Alvin Ailey benefit Gala in Kansas City. After a wonderful performance by the dancers we enjoyed a nice dinner followed by dancing. As I stepped off the dance floor, I noticed three men standing in the shadows, watching their wives on the dance floor. The power of the image of these three men immediately struck me. I surreptitiously took a few pictures of them, which I later digitized to increase the brooding feeling I got from watching them.
I originally painted these gentlemen in 2019, but I loved the reference photo so much I decided to try to capture them again, using my current methods of laying down colors.
